Kathleen's former career was counseling hundreds of serial killers in a psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane. While living on an undeveloped Bahamian island for 8 years and secretly watching the drug smuggling trade, Kathleen published a young adult book, Awesome Summer, using the name CR Hof. Kathleen spent 6 months as a volunteer PA on Flourish, Bible Battles and That Game of Chess.
I enjoyed the read. The suspense was well done and kept my attention throughout. I was invested in the characters and wanted to see them succeed. I did feel left up in the air regarding a conclusion at the end. Who was the attacker? I was led to believe there were only 2 people in the forest, Bill and Jane. Also, there were trees. But, also, Bill has scratches on his arms. Was he the attacker? The police claim there was no one else in the forest. But, we know the police are not always correct. Personally, I would prefer a more definite conclusion. However, I am most likely not your target audience. Shorts are not my area of expertise. So, don't even consider my comment until you get more feedback from your target audience.
