"Midnight American" was a very easy read. It was gripping and intense, relatable and realistic in terms of characters and dialogue, and the setting/imagery were all top-notch. It is definitely a story I'd like to see in live-action, but I think a lot is left on the table. At 70 pages it's very brisk and accomplishes what it sets out to in those 70 pages, but it's missing just a few things to elevate it. I would love to see a bit more fleshed-out lore and background. Some of the Collector's motives or intentions just seemed unclear and loose. I would also love to see a more coherent flashback, maybe less choppy between the present and past, which might give us more consistent Beth coverage. As it's written, the flashbacks in Act 1 are tough to follow. Ultimately, I would give this about a 6.5/10, with room to easily get to an 8/10 or so based on some clean up and expansion. Definitely liked it, biggest gripe is I wanted more! Otherwise, well done and further drafts will be great.
