SIREN'S SONG
Just off the coast of Cape Town, South Africa, a small fishertown resides, Meerminbaai (Mermaidbay)
named mostly for when the sunrays catches the coral reef the water lights up in a spectrum of colors.
BAREND ROOS, around mid twenties, light hairedman finds himself in the family business of catching
abalone and selling them at the highest prices. His father, KRISTOFF ROOS, around late sixties,
greying widower tries to convince his son that they should spend some time together. Barend does not
believe in being social, growing up without a mother he never really connected with his father. Barend
makes up an excuse why he doesn't want to go out to sea today. ANGELIQUE DU PREEZ, a early
twenties, dark haired girl is one of Kristoff's newest recruits as one of Barend's life long friends even she
can't convince him to go out to sea, she brushes it off as Barend not wanting to be around people.
Angelique says: "Don't judge a book by it's cover, Barend!" But what they don't understand is that Barend
struggles to communicate properly with others. THABO SIMENYA, late fifties, grey haired man, the first
mate to Kristoff's crew pulls Barend to the side and tells him: "There are wonders and dangers out there,
but Kristoff doesn't heed the warning and it will be the end of him." Barend hurries away from Thabo.
