An old man, realising he's soon to die, has a heart to heart with his only granddaughter, telling her about his estrangement from her father (his son) and how he's lived by himself out in the swamp all these years.
Yet, he isn't lonely, he has friends out here, just not the ones most people can see.
Before she leaves, the old man has a favor to ask his granddaughter, one that involves him never having to leave his friends.
A young writer has just written her first novel and two companies want to get the rights to publish her book. She goes back to her old town to seal a deal with one company in privacy not knowing that the other company had other plans of obtaining rights from her against her will.
