Set in the Antarctic, scientists investigating global warming receive news about a virus pandemic, shutting down all services. Now trapped on this glacial desert, the crew must come to terms that their once normal mission has turned into one of survival.
January 21, 2088. A group of researchers posted in the McCrudo research facility out in the Antarctic, get ready to go home for the winter break. However, all proceedings grind to a halt when the crew receives news of a deadly virus ravaging earth, shutting down all services. Which includes their only ticket off the Antarctic: the supply cargo ship, leaving them stranded on what seems to be an uninhabited vast glacial desert. Ricky, the lead scientist of the expedition steps up to the plate as the leader, believing that it’s his responsibility and his responsibility alone to keep his men, and women, alive. Their survival is threatened by a number of Antarctica’s harsh elements, including hypothermia, frost bit, and some unfriendly crew members of other Antarctic research facilities, that threaten to kill them. Although the primary focus of Ricky and his crew is to not only survive and thrive in this hostile environment, but also to eventually find a way off Antarctica. Their ultimate goal becomes apparent when they discover that the virus originated from one of the research bases in Antarctica, if they find the base they find the cure. After months of barely surviving everything that the Antarctic can throw at them, and even more, the crew finally stumbles by luck onto the base responsible for the virus outbreak. As for the cure, nothing can be done until they reach a far more sophisticated lab located back on the mainland. As they continue to try and find a way off the Antarctic, their luck finally changes. They find an icebreaker ship that was brought in from the sea during a massive storm, trapped in ice just off the coast. While four crew members try to fix and get the ship running, the rest attempt to find a way to break the ice around the ship and guide it back into the open sea, and eventually home. As the ship makes its way through the Antarctic’s shallow rocky coast heading out to sea, the ship hits a boulder submerged in the water.
