A serial killer stalks a homicide detective while the detective is trying to solve a string of murders. The killer is highly organized, deceptive and heartless, he loves taunting the detective. The letters he leaves at the murder scene are all signed "Sonny," it's just the kind of name a son would leave.
When a high level black excutive is hired racism ensues. After he is falsly charged with embezlment he turns the tables on the company. He uncovers almost 18 million dollars in funds stolen funds from the nations police departments.
From the back seat of police cruiser, a father sees his daughter taken out of the back of his car by, Ed, a man he knows from her school. The father must decide if she is better off with him or in the "system" like him. Ed must learn that raising a child isn't about finding personal redemption.
